Monopoly Challenge

posted 10 Sep 2011 00:43 by Kim Parry

In July Kettering Phoenix and Bedford Rotaract Clubs held the Monopoly Challenge and the aim was to visit every place on the Monopoly Board in the fastest time.  It was a really fun day out in London and our photographs are now available to view so please take a look in our photo gallery.

Dragon Boat Race

posted 7 Sep 2011 04:58 by Kim Parry

Thank you to everyone that took part in this years Nene Valley Dragon Boat Race.  I am pleased to say that we won our first heat but lost our second heat.  The event was called off after two heats due to the rain storm which made it un-safe to continue.  We got soaked!  This year we included Huntingdon and Leaming Spa & Warwick Rotaract clubs so was even more fun and fellowship.  We have raised lots of money for Cransley & Lakelands Hospice too. Please check out our photographs included in the photo galery.

The sun is shining and we have lots of exciting Rotaract activities over the next few weeks- happy days!  Here’s a run down of all things Phoenix, fun and frolics:

Come Dine With Me.
Kirsty has master-minded our next fun, fundraiser....Everyone is paired up to make the cooking easier and guests bring £10 each and there are prizes for the best scores and for the least money spent.  All profits will go towards on two ongoing fundraising efforts with the Classroom Box and Shelter Box.  Please let Kirstie know if you fancy showcasing your culinary skills and taking part!

Handover- 25th June
It is nearly that time of year again to handover to the incoming Board and President.  Last year we held a BBQ at Kristie’s house which was lovely and so this year we’re going for take two at Kim’s new pad.  The date for your diary is Saturday 25th June.  Please let Kim know if you are able to come along so she can make sure there’s plenty of burgers to go around!

Phoenix do life-size Monopoly in London- 9th July
So this one of Bond’s brilliant ideas…A day visiting all of the sites on a Monopoly board.  All the London land marks and a few pub stops on the way- sounds like a perfect day! Dan has now mapped out the Monopoly Board on a map and it would cost us just £22 each for the train ticket including a travel card for when in London.  It sounds like it is going to be much fun and fancy dress would be great – Carley has already bagged the dog!  We could bring picnics to get the cost down too.  Anyone interested should let Dan know asap so that he can arrange transport for everyone.

Quingo - District handover- 1st July
Quingo? What is Quingo, I hear you cry! It’s the dreamy combination of a quiz and bingo, and the district team have picked this theme for their annual handover.  It’s taking place on 1st July at Bromham Village Hall (near Bedford somewhere) and costs just £5 for buffet, bevs, bingo and quiz- bargain! Kim’s heading over and would love as many as us to join as possible.

Jazz on the lawn- 19th June
Thrapston and Raunds Rotary Club are organising Jazz on the Lawn, this Father’s Day- which is on 19th June for those of you who need to make a note! It’s taking place at Dentford Ash and would make a lovely day out with Daddy.

Spring Ball- not a new children’s game, it’s our annual party!
We have decided to schedule our planned winter ball to the spring to give us plenty of time to make it bigger and better than last year.  Please let Jordan know if you are interested in joining the project team.

It’s not just the Only Way Is Essex Crew who know how to Glamp!
(Glamping= Glamorous camping!) Simon @ Rushden club is organizing a district camping trip for 2nd July.  Let Kim/ Simon know if you want to come and play.

Rotaract to help out with Sir Alan’s next Apprentice?
If you’ve ever watched Sir Alan’s BBC search and fancied a whirl as one of the mentors- here’s your chance! Rotarty Club of Kettering have been running a successful scheme; visiting schools in the area and interviewing pupils to help their development.  They’d love for some Rotaracters to join the interview team – let Julian Winch know if you’d like to get involved.

Enjoy tonight’s social, organised by Elly, at Frank’s Pizzeria.  See you soon!

Winter Ball
At last week’s business meeting the date was confirmed for the 19th November.  Please let Jordan know if you can make it so we can booked the venue.  There have been lots of great suggestions for themes but we have decided on ‘Come As Your Hero’ and funds go to Help for Heroes.  Rothwell is the chosen venue following the success of last year’s event.  Let Kim/ Sophie know if you’re keen to get involved with the planning.

Country Fair
Sophie and the team at Lamport Estate have kindly allowed us to gate crash this year’s country fair so that we can have a stall to promote Phoenix and the wonderful world of Rotaract/ Rotary.  We need volunteers to help put together and man a stall on 28th/ 29th May at Lamport between 10-5pm.  Let Kirsty know if you have any bright ideas or can help out on the day.

Handover
It is nearly that time of year again to handover to the incoming Board and President.  Last year we held a BBQ at Kristie’s house which was lovely and so Kim is planning on doing the same thing this year but obviously at Kim’s lovely new house not Kristie’s!  The proposed date is Saturday 25th June or Saturday 9th July.  Please let Kim know your availability for these two dates so we can get a date agreed.

It’s not just the Only Way Is Essex Crew who know how to Glamp!
(Glamping= Glamorous camping!) Simon @ Rushden club is organizing a district camping trip for 2nd July at Grendon Lakes.  Let Kim/ Simon know if you want to come and play.

District Assembly
Remember to put this date is your diary- Saturday 14th May.  This is for all incoming Board and Officers but is open to everyone to come along.  The idea this year is to focus on membership and it will be held in Rothwell between 10 and 1pm.  Please let Kirstie know if you are coming along, and there are no excuses as it is free!

Easter Egg Hunt

posted 18 Apr 2011 04:52 by Kim Parry

Thank you to everyone that came along and supported our second Easter Egg Hunt at Wicksteed Park on Sunday.  It was a lovely day and we hope you enjoyed yourselves.  We raised £65.14 for KCU Children's Holiday Fund 2011.  We would like to thank Sainsbury's for their kind donation of some eggs.  Hopefully we will see you again next year....

Have a cracking good time!
Our annual Easter egg hunt is taking place on Sunday at Wicksteed pack from 10am.  It costs just £2 to take part, with all proceeds going to KCU Ltd’s 2011 children’s holiday fund, helping to send 40 children from Kettering on a summer holiday.  We need volunteers to help out on the day so let Kim know if you fancy joining the fun!

Winter Ball
The revised suggested date is now the 19th November.  Please let Jordan know if you can make it so we can booked the venue.  There have been lots of great suggestions for themes but I think the favourite at the moment is ‘Come As Your Hero’ and funds go to Help for Heroes.

Venue for business meeting
I think everyone would agree that we need a new venue that is warm and actually has some lights (!!) so please have a think about where we could possibly meet.  One idea is the Earl which we hoped to try out tonight but will do so soon.

Handover

Next business meeting – this will be on Wednesday 27th April and we will be having a visitor from Rotary, Margaret Morley (most of you will know from the wine tasting evening) so please make her feel welcome.  Also Bob King is on a leave of absence for the next few months so we will not be seeing much of him, but another Rotarian called Mike Tebbutt will be coming in his place.
